Shonen Knife
Shonen Knife
Shonen Knife, (meaning "Boy Knife" in Japanese) is an all-female Japanese pop punk band formed in Osaka, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs with simplistic lyrics sung both in Japanese and English.

Despite their pop-oriented nature, the trio maintains a distinctly underground garage rock sound rooted in edgy instrumentation and D.I.Y. aesthetics, which over the course of their long career has earned them a solid, worldwide cult following and made avid fans out of seminal '90s alternative rock bands such as Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross. The band has been credited with making "the international pop underground more international" by "opening it up to bands from Japan". They have also performed as a Ramones tribute band under the name The Osaka Ramones and have recorded music for numerous films including the theme song to the popular "PowerPuff Girls" cartoon series.

Shonen Knife has toured worldwide playing their unique brand of rock, with extensive touring in the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Japan, China, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand and more, the band is always moving forward and growing as a band with each and every release. SK's 20th album release entitled "Overdrive" was released in spring of 2014 followed by a wildly succesful UK, European and Japanese Tour to support the new album. The band has recently completed a 2014 North American tour including their 1000th performance in St. Paul MN on 9/16/14 !
Bloody Death Skull
Despite the ominous name, Los Angeles band Bloody Death Skull is fiendishly sweet. Swirling together electrified ukulele, toys, sound effects, and instruments over the classic chord structures that launched early rock and soul, BDS makes fun music rooted in the 50s & 60s with a punk mentality and lyrics that (joyfully) break some taboos. Backed by a band ranging from three to twelve members, Daiana Feuer sings about love, day dreams, the cosmos, animals, television, dead things, bad things, cute things, and being stuck in the mind of a teenager forever. Imagine The Shirelles meets Roky Erickson on a playground in outer space.
POLARTROPICA
POLARTROPICA
POLARTROPICA makes crystal-cool, dreamy, orchestral electro/synth pop that will tickle your ears and imagination. The debut EP Astrodreams is set to be released on Lolipop Records (cass) on March 29, 2016! Intertwined within the "swirly burst of dreamy reverie" (Free Bike Valet) are themes of isolation, injustice, heartbreak, and corruption - all set under the glittery futuristic synths and classical string arrangements.

Combining her love for classical, pop and indie rock music, Ihui Wu (keyboardist for Sanglorians, Simone White, Ghostel) holed up in her tiny cottage in Highland Park and wrote the songs together with fellow music lover and friend Roman Salas. The songs were recorded with Silverlake-based producer C.M. Rodriguez over one of the hottest summers in California. With the help of many talented musicians, including Morgan Paros on violin, Joe Santa Maria on saxophone and Lauren Elizabeth Baba on viola/violin, the vision for Astrodreams came to life!! Come away to a distant land where macarons grow on trees, fuzzy baby flamingos nap in the warm sunshine and glitter clouds line the sky!

Inspired by sparkling mineral water, Totoro, Quentin Tarantino, James Bond and Aaliyah, POLARTROPICA is Ihui (eeway) Wu, Graham Chapman, Andrew Lessman and Alexander Noice and super secret special guests!!!
