“A unique choreographic voice, creating work that is meditative, introspective, haunting, and ... dream-like.” —SeeDance
MARSHMALLOW SEA, the latest evening-length work from choreographer Stephanie Zaletel and her company of six dancers, reflects on water and its symbols to explore fluidity and force, sustenance and submission. Zaletel dives beyond linear narratives and submits to dream logic, offering an overwhelming surge of memories disrupted by a staggered, fractured pace.
Composer Jonathan Snipes performs his score live, utilizing MaxMSP, field recordings and modular synth to construct a sonic atmosphere of persistence.
Costumes by Amabelle Aguiluz and set design by prolific recycling artist Clare Graham.
MARSHMALLOW SEA is presented as part of the 5th annual Los Angeles Exchange (LAX) Festival, produced by Los Angeles Performance Practice.http://www.bootlegtheater.org/event/1541012/
With performances and events that are geographically focused in and around Downtown L.A., the Festival program hosts ten days of contemporary performance by Los Angeles-based artists, presented in dialogue with works by guest artists from beyond our borders.
Produced by Los Angeles Performance Practice, this year’s festival is made in collaboration with our partnering venues:
