All readings are presented free of charge as a service to the community, but reservations are requested and highly recommended; and donations are always appreciated. Please join us for an end of day gathering immediately following each day's second reading. Please note that the Bootleg Theater is hosting the readings in The Factory (2220 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90057).

For eight months the MADlab team at Moving Arts has worked with four talented playwrights to help them create and curate a new play with the support and insight of dramaturges, actors, directors, and their fellow playwrights. Now Moving Arts is proud to present the 6th Annual First Look Reading Series to a vital component of the new play making process: the audience. Over two days we will present these four very different, engaging, challenging, and bold new plays. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

MADlab Dramaturges: Paige Vehlewald, Zury Ruiz, Allison Bergman, and Elyse Griffin

MADlab Producer: Dana Schwartz

More about the plays:

Khari Wyatt: Neon Boogie (Sun, Sep 22, 11AM)

1970. America. In the throes of sex, race and war Neon June has one mission:

Music. Or else.

Eric Reyes Loo: Like a Boy (Sun, Sep 22, 1:30PM)

A pop song in three-part harmony. When Frank, an openly gay man, thinks his effeminate son needs to change his voice, he returns to the vocal teacher who solved his problem when was fourteen. However, thirty years of social progress means that Quinn doesn’t think he’s the one with the problem, forcing Frank to confront his 14-year-old self through memory, magic and Madonna songs.
