PEPPERMINT PEACE (1983) + BALANCE (1989) 16mm Film Screening

Bootleg TheaterLos AngelesCA
Doors at 5:30 PM
Show at 6:00 PM

Occupied Germany, 1945. In a rural Bavarian town, Marianne and the other children are trying to make sense of post-war trauma, poverty and the local priest’s sermons condemning sex and communism. Then, when an American G.I. (Peter Fonda) starts giving gum to the children and sleeping with the English-speaking neighbor, things get complicated.

Director Marianne Rosenbaum weaves together neorealist style with gorgeous in-color fantasy sequences to create an imaginatively autobiographical and darkly funny portrait of post-war Germany featuring a memorable and rarely-seen performance by the late, great Peter Fonda.

Shown as part of this year’s retrospective program at the Berlin Film Festival, PEPPERMINT PEACE (PEPPERMINT-FRIEDEN) is otherwise nearly impossible to see with subtitles in any format. Join us for this very special, Los Angeles premiere screening.

The program will open with a 16mm print of Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein's 1989 Oscar-winning stop-motion short film, BALANCE.

Please note: Stand-by tickets will be available night of show on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All ticket holders must be seated 15 minutes prior to show start time or tickets are subject to re-sale.

Full bar at the Bootleg Theater. There is street parking, or a free lot at the church across the street on Beverly/Roselake. Any questions, please email
