An evening of music from four distinct voices within the Los Angeles community benefiting IRIS (Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Service), an organization that provides resettlement services here in LA to children and adults forcibly displaced from their homes around the world, including places like Central America and Syria. This crisis has been felt around the globe, but even in our own city we have a chance to help support our new neighbors who have been forced to start their lives over in an unfamiliar place.
The mission of Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Service (IRIS) is to provide a gracious welcome as well as tangible tools and connections to help new arrivals achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. IRIS has several programs including: refugee resettlement, immigration legal services, refugee employment program, cultural orientation, food pantry program and an ESL/Civics program.
"The beguiling singer Simone White is known as much for her whispered vocals as for her smart songwriting." - Huffington Post
"Soft-voiced L.A. musician Simone White is the only singer-songwriter signed to Damon Albarn's eclectic Honest Jon's label, and her singular talents are evident on her haunting latest album, Silver Silver. […] the lean-in-to-listen compositions is what makes her performances so captivating."- Time Out New York
"...Simone White's gently yielding, half-spoken vocals pitched, pleasingly, equidistant between Laurie Anderson and Joni Mitchell." -Four star review, MOJO
With a range of influences from shoegaze, to krautrock, to indie electronica, the band’s music has been described as “quietly melodic soundscapes that twist and turn like a wild stream, refusing to be pigeonholed” (LA RECORD). L.A. Weekly notes, “The spirits of bands like Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and Spoon are all at work here, but not always in the way you’d expect. It’s nice to see a group putting some independence back into indie rock."
After touring the US and Europe, opening for artists like Faust, funk-legend Bernie Worrell, and punk-legend Mike Watt, Derde Verde now putting the finishing touches on their next release, due Summer 2016, and will be returning to the stage with brand new material this Spring. The band's last EP, Let Me Be A Light, has been praised by L.A. Weekly, LA RECORD, and Buzzbands.la among others, and is available on 12” Vinyl, CD, and download via iTunes and Bandcamp.
His latest project, The Alexander Noice Sextet, an inimitable modern ensemble melding the worlds of classical minimalism and contemporary opera with rock and jazz; has made a notable impact on the Los Angeles music scene with their stunning live performances. With an affinity towards Reich-like minimalism, Stravinskyan episodic shifts, and lyrical melodic sensibilities derived from the pop worlds of the Talking Heads and David Bowie; Noice creates a sound with his ensemble that defies any pre conceived genre. The Alexander Noice Sextet is set to record in the summer of 2016 for their debut release in 2017.
"uncategorizable guitar phenom" -LA Weekly
"known for its sudden shifts from Balkan melodies to abstract modern music to full-on punk rock, all within seconds of one another. The music sounds like a DJ’s crazy, psychedelic remix, only the sextet is doing everything live" -LA Weekly
